Early 19thc. Staffordshire Pearlware square based figure of HYGEIA, with serpent in standing pose, serpent wrapped around her left arm.

HYGEIA was the goddess of Health, she healed the sick by administering the bile of the gorgon Medusa and for that reason she is depicted with a Ewer & Bowl holding Medusa's bile.

Condition: repair to top of arm, repair to wrist, top of jug, repair to elbow of left arm.
