Pair 19thc. Staffordshire figures titled MOODY & SANKEY by Sampson Smith Pottery.

American Evangelist, Dwight Lytman Moody American, born at Northfield Mass. A shopkeeper in Boston he moved in 1856 to Chicago where he became engaged in missionary work.  There he joined in 1870 Ira David Sankey and together they visited England as evangelists both in 1873 and 1883.  Moody preached and Sankey sang.  Subsequently they worked together in America.
