Large 19thc. Staffordshire figure titled GARIBALDI by Sampson Smith pottery c.1860's He stands bare-headed, in shirt and trousers.  His right hand rests on a sword hilt and he holds a paper in his left hand.  The pairing of the figure with Ref # 4353 Shakespeare can be explained on the grounds Garibaldi visited England in 1864 the year of the tri-centenary of the birth of Shakespeare

Condition: Usuaul crazing to glaze, glazing hairline on base (see photograph)

Label on base shows that it was originally in The Rev. Harry Bloomfield collection which was sold at Dreweatt & Neatt's auction in 1998
